Signs of TBI

Although every brain injury is different, here are a few warning signs to look for if you believe someone has suffered trauma to their skull, neck and face. Brain injuries are always a serious matter. The terms “mild,” “moderate” and “severe” often refer to the level of trauma, not necessarily the length and severity of corresponding symptoms. Even relatively minor blows to the head may cause serious issues. These symptoms generally appear with the first few hours, but can take days to fully manifest. The only way to ensure you and your loved ones receive appropriate care is through a prompt, accurate diagnosis and individualized care from a qualified physician.

Possible symptoms include:

  • Confusion/disorientation
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Headache
  • Seizures/convulsions
  • Difficulty concentrating/Aphasia
  • Dizziness/lightheadedness
  • Loss of balance and coordination
  • Memory problems
  • Nausea
  • Blurred vision
  • Slurred speech
  • Ringing in the ears/bad taste in mouth/tingling sensations
  • Vertigo
  • Dysphagia
  • Sensitivity to light or sound
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Irritability/disinhibition/impulsiveness
  • Fatigue/weakness
  • Sudden mood changes/violent outbursts
  • Increased sleeping

The nature and severity of symptoms may vary. This list is not conclusive or intended to be used for medical diagnosis and treatment. Please seek immediate medical attention in the event of an actual injury.
